OPERATIVES of Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybe-Crime Squad, SAKCCS, Delta Police Command, have arrested a 32- year-old kidnap kingpin, who organised kidnap operations from the prisons, Okere, near Warri, Delta State and six other suspected hostage takers, including a prisons staff.
It was gathered, yesterday, that SAKCCS detectives, acting on intelligence, busted the syndicate of kidnappers and prisons officials allegedly responsible for several kidnap cases within Warri, Ughelli, Sapele and environs.
State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Mustafa, confirmed the arrest of the kingpin and seven others, but did not give further details.
He said: “As a follow up to the kidnap case of Benedicta Eseoghene at Ogbueke Square, Asaba, on May 22 and other kidnap cases and its environs, a team of SAKCCS operatives, acting on intelligence, on June 22, about 12.30 hours, stormed a hotel in Warri where the suspects were arrested.”
Our findings showed that the kidnap linchpin, who is serving a 21-year-jail term at Okere Prisons, was covertly unconstrained by a prison staff presently in police custody on the orders of the syndicate for a kidnap operation on June 22.
